We've got a new ADSL line, thanks to Brighton Sailing Club for letting us use their line. However we've only restarted Node 2. The western end of the beach is back up. We will be putting the other 2 beach nodes back into service in the near future.
nbsp;
I can talk to the webcam, but its not uploading images, that too will return shortly.
nbsp;
Were paying for the Internet out of our donations at present, so please keep them. comming.

	So that you won't get security warnings when you log in we've bought a new signed security certificate. Your browser (IE firefox Safari etc.) Should accept it as Genuine without warning you of security issues when you log in.
In the event your browser says "Certificate Changed" or similar, don't worry, we changed it deliberatly.
Big thanks to James and Alec for sorting this. It cost us money so if you want to paypal us some useing the link on the right we won't mind at all.

Nodes 1,2 and 3 Down

	Nodes 1,2 and 3 (in other words, the whole beach between the piers) are down. There is no functioning piertopier.net access at this time.
We don't know when this will get fixed - we don't have many volunteers left, and this is a big thing to sort out. In the meantime, we have a working node in the Granville Hotel, and there is free wireless available from Looseconnection at Bar de la Mer.
Sorry about this.

	We don't exactly collect 10th generation family trees off our users, nor do we spy on them we can however tell them apart and who's on. So far we've counted more than 9000 of them. In fact were quite looking forward to cracking the big 10k
Progress towards 10000 user mark:
The Graph shows to the total number of users PierToPier.net has counted so far (about the last 3 years).
we can also see home many users are on each day, on our best day we managed 121, a week after the Labour conferance 2005 - go figure?
The above graph shows the number of people using the network each day.
9000 users, thats a whole lotta laptops? I hear your sceptesim. But I'm pretty sure I know what I'm taking about. Every bit of wireless gear has a unique address built into it a "Mac Address" sometimes know as physical address. Weve been logging these (even from guest users) since about may 04, and counting them and we're sure these are separate devices.

Top Ten Wireless Beaches

	These up starts who've come along and wirelessed up their beaches, well someone compiled a top 10 wifi enabled beaches. We came second. I'm a bit peeved about it. In our defense, our beach has the largest paragraph, its the furthest from the Equator, being beaten by Clearwater in Florida is no disgrace. They have sand and the Caribbean. We have gravel and the English Channel.
Despite that we managed to beat Patong Beach, possibly the most famous Asian resort into 3rd. Any way you can get the full list here: http://www.geekabout.com/2007-01-18-78/top-10-beaches-with-wifi-internet -access.html
Thanks to Neilium for finding this (see the forums).

	nbsp;
Our mailing list server has been annoying us with messages about spam it can't deliver - more offten telling us that we have potential posts that need "moderating". This was annoying. It wasn't affecting people on the mailing lists. But it was driving us nuts. We've instituted "grey listing" a technique which delays incomming mail, the result being spammers give up but real mail servers - which should be concientious. Try again and are accepted.I've trid this techique before it rocks. If you have trouble sending to the mailing list, post relavent info on the forums and I'll sort it out. It may take a bit longer than you expect t for legit messages to arrive, the first time you email the new system this is perfectly normal.

	Note: This website is still being finished, but we liked it so much we thought we'd publish it anyway. Any and all bugs (including spling mishtakes) should be entered here.
Yes we know it looks pretty much like the old one. It differs in some quite major ways however.
New Website

We can all edit the site. Previously it was only accessable by Alec. The intention is to keep it much more up to date.
More links. We've been running a wiki and a mailing list for some time. We've never had them on the website.
Downloads. We've incuded a downloads section, we've produced a fiar amount of stuff over the years, we run our own Linux OS we've got pretty ad banners etc. They are all abvaible from the advert button above.
Improved Node Map. We've updated the Node Map, its generated automatically now, so new nodes should appear on the map on a more reliable basis. Its also colour coded to show status.

Mailing Lists. We've got a mailing list, if you want to stay informed about the PierToPier.net project, events we're involved in and so then use the link above to sign up. We've also go a more techlist for geeks if your interested get in touch with us.
A big thank you goes to all those tho've built this site and server, the CSS and PHP were down by Chris, I've worked on content and the nodes database. Alec has helped us move the the forums from Dataline's severs. Special thanks go to Ian Jeffery who gave us this server, and Moving Edge who let us put it in there rack.
